Rachel Frankum Olliff

Rachel Frankum Olliff came into this world Jan. 19, 1958, in El Compo, the daughter of Douglas Charles Frankum and Billie Jean Bender Frankum. She left us too early April 24, 2017, in Houston.

She was a long time resident of Hood County and proprietor of Hill City Greenhouse.

Memorial service: 6 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, in the home of Robert and Boo Summers in Glen Rose. Interment will be in Turtle Bay on the Texas coast on a later yet undetermined date.

She was a mother, wife, mother, nursery owner and mother. Her greatest joys in life were spending time laughing with family and friends, traveling and salt water fishing.

She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Charles Frankum; mother Billie Jean Frankum; brother Michael Douglas Frankum; and grandson Braden Douglas Conner Cartret.

She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Russell Olliff; son Barry Douglas Cartret (wife Sabrina) of Fort Worth, son Nikkolas Olliff (fiancé Ashley Mata) of Stephenville; granddaughter Calla Grace Cartret of Fort Worth; sister Rebekah Kidd (husband Gary) of Granbury; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.


John T. Buchanan

John Buchanan, 84, retired and former owner of Buchanan and Associates Insurance Agency in Arlington, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at his home in Granbury after a short illness with cancer. Lanell, his wife of 60 years, was by his side.

Celebration of life: Wednesday, May 3, 2017, 2-4 p.m., DeCordova Bend Estates Country Club, Granbury. The family requests no flowers or contributions, but please bring stories and reminders of John to be shared.

At the close of this celebration of life, the U.S. Navy will honor John’s service to America with military honors.

John was born March 24, 1933, in Louisville, Mississippi, to Lex and Barzie Buchanan.

John made friends wherever he went. He loved the game of golf and there wasn’t a card game he didn’t know how to play. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on a destroyer during the Korean conflict. Following his tour of duty he enrolled in Texas Tech University where he earned a bachelor’s degree and then began his career in the insurance industry.

John is survived by his wife, Lanell; his son, Mike Buchanan; daughter Tracie Young and son-in-law Randy; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Glenda Gardner Ake, 76, of Granbury passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. Interment at Moore Memorial Gardens.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at the funeral home.

Glenda was born in Dallas April 4, 1941, to Jimmy Gardner and Helen Dunn. She graduated from Fort Worth Tech High School and eloped with Terry Leonard Ake on July 19, 1957, when they were both 16 years old. She had a career in real estate and worked for over 30 years with Ebby Haliday.

She had a passion for family, Christ, gardening, travel, the mountains, Terry’s Harley and numerous sports including snow skiing and scuba diving. For most of her life Glenda was a family maker. She could be counted on to have holiday celebrations that included the best food and the most spectacular decorations.

Glenda was preceded in death by her son, Scott; parents, mother-in-law Billie Ake; and father-in-law Leonard Ake.

Survivors: Husband Terry Leonard Ake; daughter Sherry Dianne Ake; daughter-in-law Maribel Crespo; granddaughter Whitney Ake Hoy; brother Hal Dunn; and sister Beverly Dunn.

Leland Norman, 77, of Glen Rose and formerly of Granbury passed away May 1, 2017.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, Greenwood-Arlington Chapel. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Greenwood-Arlington Chapel.

Memorials: To the National Parkinson’s Foundation.

Leland Norman was born in Coleman, Oklahoma, April 27, 1939. He was loved from that day forward by all who knew him. He was an amazing and hardworking man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cristene Norman; parents Lawrence and Gertrude Norman; sisters Emma LaDean Norman Hendrix and LouAnn Anthony.

He is survived by his children: Trudi Sherer, Lance Wendell (wife Amy) Norman and Keri (husband Matthew) Fleming; grandchildren: Chelsea Sherer, Dalton Sherer, Landon Norman, Logan Norman, Rylan Fleming and Hunter Fleming.

Norma Jean Davis, 88, of Granbury passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

She was cremated, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Norma was born in Birmingham, Alabama, June 15, 1928.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, John Davis of Granbury and George Clark Davis Jr. of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren John Brandon Davis, Travis Cory Davis and Ryan Davis; and great-grandchildren Kash Davis and Kyler Davis.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Powell Davis and her siblings, Mildred Braswell and Jane Simmons.

Willa Rapp

Willa Rapp, 91, of Granbury passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017.

Funeral mass: At St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church at a later date.

Willa was born August 31, 1925, in New Jersey. After graduating high school she attended St. Peters and became a registered nurse. She worked several years as a public health nurse.

Willa married the love of her life, Herman, in 1951. She was the consummate volunteer, always ready to lend a hand. She spent several years as a volunteer school nurse for St. Joseph’s school. She was also active in the local fire departments auxiliary.

When her first grandchildren came along in 1990 she immediately decided to move to Granbury. Willa was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. She regularly attended weekday morning mass.

Willa and Herm celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last fall, just before Herm’s passing.

Willa is survived by her three children: Cynthia Anderson, Charles Rapp and Christopher Rapp; and three grandchildren Chelsea Rapp, Kelly Rapp and Kyle Anderson.

Willa was a loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother who brought compassion and dignity to her patients and a profound kindness to all she met.

Ollis Connie Johnson, 71, of Granbury passed away April 30, 2017.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, Fort Worth.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 5 at Laurel Land.

Ollis Connie Johnson was born March 21, 1946, in Paris, Texas. He was a Vietnam veteran and served as a corpsman. He earned his Nursing degree from TCU. He obtained his Nurse Anesthetist degree from Wichita Falls Hospital. Ollis enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing with his grandchildren, and was always ready to help friends and family. He loved and cared for his patients. He was an avid TCU fan.

Ollis was preceded in death by his parents, AJ and Evelyn Johnson; infant son, Austin; and an infant daughter.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter Jessica (husband Anthony) Day; grandchildren Kyle and Kaden; stepdaughter Terri; God daughter Vicky; sisters Lea, Joan and Lona Ruth; and many nephews, nieces, friends and his beloved dogs, Abby and Toby.

Gladys Virginia McKean, 97, went to be with her heavenly father Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in Granbury. Gladys can finally be reunited with her beloved husband, Gordon E. McKean, who passed away in 2003.

Graveside service: 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita, Kansas.

Visitation: 6–8 p.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, Wiley Funeral Home, Granbury.

Gladys was born March 10, 1920, in Wichita to Mitchell Franklin Bailey and Tillie Jane Armor. She married her high school sweetheart, Gordon McKean, in February of 1939. They lived in Newton, Kansas; Wichita, Kansas; and Denver, Colorado. They enjoyed square dancing all over Kansas and Texas. Gladys was a homemaker and a lifelong member of West Side Christian Church in Wichita.

Gladys is survived by her sons: Michael McKean (wife Darlene) of Granbury and Patrick (wife Glenda) McKean of Derby, Kansas; grandchildren: Keith McKean, Brian McKean, Cathy Alfaro, Jon Pat McKean and Julie Carter, and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Joyce Moore, 88, of Granbury and formerly of Austin, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, in Granbury.

Graveside service: 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017, Assumption Cemetery, Austin.

Joyce was born on March 14, 1929, in Lansing, Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Michigan State. She traveled around the world at least twice including the South Pole. She was a foot model for Neiman Marcus as she was a perfect size four. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Jack D. Moore and her son, Terry.

Joyce is survived by her dear friend Ian Moore of Granbury.

Lee O. Harrison Jr., 43, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, in Granbury.

Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Martin’s Funeral Home. Private interment.

Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. before the service.

Lee was born Jan. 4, 1974, in Stephenville to Lee Sr. and Linda Denton Harrison. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was a Dallas Cowboys fan.

Lee was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Sarah Dawn Harrison.

Survivors: Sister, Sabrina Scott and husband, Leonard; father, Lee Harrison; niece, Kristina Frazier (husband Danny); nephew, Jacob Scott (wife Victoria); great- niece, Ellison Frazier; and great- nephew, Noah Scott.

Mary Alice Richardson Alexander

Mary Alice Richardson Alexander, 93, of Granbury passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017.

Graveside service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017, in Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth.

Mary was born May 13, 1923, in Camp Wood to John Walker and Loma Wilson Richardson. She grew up in Rocksprings and then attended San Marcos Baptist Academy, Baylor University and graduated from Trinity University in 1945. She was very skilled musically. At Baylor she was voted “most beautiful” and was the lead singer at Baylor and Trinity Universities in the acappella choir. She continued singing after retirement with the choral group, The Melody Bells of DeCordova.

Her father had the Alamo Lumber Co. in Camp Wood and Rocksprings.

She met the love of her life at a lumberman’s convention in 1946. They were married Sept. 1, 1946. They lived and raised their family in Fort Worth owning Alexander Lumber Company on Montgomery Street.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Carol Ann Alexander. Survivors: Husband L. J. Alexander; daughters Cheryl Merritt (husband Tommy) and Cindy Ladurini (husband David); grandson, Brandon Bryant and great-granddaughter Reagan Bryant.

Sheri ‘Kay’ (Beheler) Young

Sheri “Kay” (Beheler) Young, 79, passed away May 4, 2017, in Lancaster, California.

Service: Private graveside, Granbury.

She was born March 3, 1938, to Sherman and Catherine Beheler in Fort Worth.

Kay graduated from Aledo High School, class of ‘56. She was a homemaker, and bookkeeper to a few companies in California. She also worked and volunteered at the Lancaster Senior Center for a number of years. Even though she lived in California for most of her life, she was always a country girl at heart. Kay enjoyed coming to some of the class reunions over the years, it meant a lot to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kay is survived by longtime companion, James R. Reddish and his family; brother Ruskin Beheler (wife Bebe); her four children: Kym Lopez (husband Jesse), Greg Young, Diane DeLugt (husband John), Jayson Young (wife Patty); seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild on the way; and a nephew and two nieces and cousins.

Claude Wendell Creamer

Claude Wendell Creamer, 80, of DeCordova Bend entered into Heaven May 6, 2017.

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, First Christian Church, Granbury.

Wendell was a lover of life. His wife, Barbara, was the absolute love of his life. He was the proud father to Kristi and Cory and the extremely proud grandfather of his five grandchildren.

He was a graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of ’58. He loved gardening and growing things, golfing, and most of all fishing. He always knew how to make people smile and laugh. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Claude Franklin Creamer; mother Hazel Mae Creamer, sister Betty Hopson and brother-in-law Billy Hopson.

Wendell is survived by the love of his life and wife of 57 years, Barbara Fay (Evans) Creamer; daughter and son-in law Kristi and Greg Beaty; son and daughter-in law Cory and Amy Creamer; grandchildren Candace, Samantha and Pierce Beaty and Chylan and Michaely Blair; brother Robert (Bobby) Creamer and sister Gail Creamer Alsup; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Christian Church in Granbury.

Dale Frank Kempf

Dale Frank Kempf, 77, of Granbury passed away April 26, 2017, at his home in Granbury after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.

Consistent with assisting young men and women with their educational aspirations, Dale’s body was donated to science through the Willed Body Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas.

There will be no memorial service.

Dale was born in Chicago, March 5, 1940, to Henry Kempf and Lottie Zelent. He graduated from Luther High School North in 1958. He earned his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, Indiana) in 1962, and his Master of Science in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1964. While working for Eastman Kodak Research Laboratories (Rochester, New York), he earned his MBA from the University of Rochester.

Dale retired from Valparaiso University as an adjunct assistant professor emeritus of electrical and computer engineering in 2014. He was a life-long Lutheran and avid Valpo athletics fan.

Survivors include: His sister, Karon Toelke (St. Louis); his nephew, the Reverend Paul C. Toelke and family members Christine, Alexander and Andrew (Stafford, Virginia); and his niece, Ms. Sheri Toelke (St. Louis) and family members Alison and Lucas.

Bill Smithie of Granbury went to be with the Lord early in the morning Sunday, May 14, 2017, in Houston after a brief illness.

Funeral services:10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Long Creek Baptist Church in Granbury where he was a charter member, and was the sound technician. Interment will follow at Long Creek Cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 19, at Wiley Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials be made to Cancer Care Services of Hood County.

Bill was born Feb. 26, 1945, in Fort Worth. He married Joanna Monroe, July 6, 1985. He loved his family, his church, cruises and road trips to the Great Smoky Mountains and Branson, Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Marines for 6 years. He spent most of his career in the automobile business as a salesman and finance manager at Everett Hooks Ford/Chrysler with a stint in the banking industry as a loan officer.

Bill was an avid music, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a maniac at Trivial Pursuit and a borderline fanatic at Fantasy Football.

His friendly smile and outgoing personality will be missed by one and all.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna, of Granbury; daughters Rhonda Ollivant (husband Tim) of Granbury, Robin Radice (husband Mike) of Prosper; and son Michael Smithie (wife Joanna Marie) of Granbury. Also surviving are grandchildren, Meghan Ollivant of New York City, Lindsey Ollivant of Lubbock, Sofi and Rhett Radice of Prosper, and Gavin and Ben Torrez of Granbury, along with numerous extended family members, and a host of friends.

Patsy Joan Sain, 76, of Granbury, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017, at her son’s home in Fort Worth.

Graveside services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Acton Cemetery, Granbury. 

Visitation: 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Wiley Funeral Home with procession to cemetery leaving at 2:30 p.m.

Patsy Joan Petty was born Jan. 30, 1941, in Godley. She was raised by her parents, Harold and Edith Hutchins. Patsy worked as a manager in the petroleum industry. She married Robert “Bob” Sain in Durant, Oklahoma, Feb. 10, 1970. 

Patsy was a loving wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother and sister. She lived most of her life in Fort Worth, but enjoyed her time lived in Granbury. Patsy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and fishing.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Bob; granddaughter Suni Ross; parents Harold and Edith Hutchins and her brother, Larry Hutchins.

Patsy is survived by 12 children, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, one sister and one brother.

Gary Richard Raper

Gary Richard Raper, 82, of Granbury went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

Celebration of Life: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Lakeside Baptist Church, Granbury.

Gary was born Jan. 21, 1935, in Pecos, to Carl and Ruth Raper. He grew up in New Mexico, graduating from Los Alamos High School. In 1957 he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Mexico. He rounded off his education with a master’s in math from UTA and a master’s in liberal arts from TCU.

In 1955, Gary married Francine Smith while they were both at UNM.

He is survived by wife, Francine; one son, Gary Jr. and one daughter, Lauren Hart; four grandsons, two granddaughters and three great-grandsons.

Gary enjoyed a long career as an aerospace engineer, retiring from Lockheed Martin. In his retired time he enjoyed wood-working, solving puzzles, tutoring math, and Friday morning coffee with “Big Hats & Old Coots.” Gary had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke.

He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church.
